Andrew Jenks Obituary

Andrew Wade Jenks

Andrew W. Jenks, 37, of Goode, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2024, surrounded by his family and close friends after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on May 15, 1987, in Lynchburg, VA, to Bob and Barbara Jenks.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Heather Jenks; son, Wade Jenks; sister, Jennifer Jenks of Goode, VA; father, Bob Jenks of Forest, VA; mother-in-law, Suzette Markland of Forest, VA; brothers-in-law, Michael Markland (Amy) of Forest, VA, and Matthew Markland (Ashlyn) of Lynchburg, VA. Andrew was a proud Uncle to Grace, Callie, Hudson, Nora, and many other adopted nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Jenks; grandparents, Dolores and Eugene Fletcher; Eyla and Loyal Jenks.

Growing up in Lynchburg, Andrew loved his community and dedicated 15 years of honorable service to the Lynchburg Fire Department, most recently as a Master Firefighter at Station 1 on C Shift. His passion for firefighting developed during his teenage years while volunteering with the Brookville Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department. Andrew continued his career, sharing his knowledge and devotion to the mission throughout Lynchburg at Station 6 and Station 1. He volunteered for all aspects of the profession by becoming a member of the Technical Rescue and Wildland teams and played the drums in the Pipe and Drum Corp. During every C Shift, Andrew could be seen riding in the seat of Truck 1.

When not at the firehouse, Andrew enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle on his farm. What started as a hobby soon became a shared passion with his son. Andrew and Wade would roam the fields, counting and feeding the cows.

Andrew never met a stranger and had a way of bringing people together with a smile and a hug. He will be missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to the Lynchburg Fire Department,

UVA Neuro-Oncology and Neurosurgery and Centra Hospice for their unwavering support to the family during this difficult time.

A service to celebrate Andrew's life will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Tree of Life Ministries, located at 2812 Greenview Dr., Timberlake, VA 24502.
