Barbara Bondurant Keatts

Barbara Bondurant Keatts, 78, of 227 Forest Lane, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Duke Raleigh Hospital after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Barbara was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Campbell County to the late Walter E. Bondurant and Margie Arthur Bondurant. Barbara married the love of her life, Carl Lee Keatts, on Sept. 19, 1952, in Lynchburg. Carl and Barbara raised their three sons during Carl's 20 years of service in the United States Air Force (1950-1970). Since 1970 the Keatts have lived in North Carolina in Raleigh and most recently in Wendell. While living in Lynchburg, Barbara was employed at Strother Drug Company and upon moving to Raleigh, she was employed with the Department of Agriculture at the ASCS Office in Raleigh. As long as her health permitted, she was a faithful member of Hephzibah Baptist Church.

Barbara is survived by her devoted and caring husband of 61 years Carl Lee Keatts, her sons, Carl Lee Keatts Jr., of Durham, J. Les Keatts (Cheryl), of Durham and Randy J. Keatts (Pamela), of Wendell. Seven grandchildren, her brother, Norman Odell Bondurant and wife Anna, of Forest. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandson, Brice Keatts; three brothers, Pernoa, Maynard and Clinton Bondurants; and sisters, Dorothy B. Godsey and Kathreen B. Purvis.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 1794 Wendell Blvd. Wendell, N.C. with the Rev. Bill Sanderson officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011,at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Eastern NC Chapter, 3101 Industrial Dr. Suite 210, Raleigh, NC 27609, attention Kay Gooch.
