Benjamin Blackwell Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Blackwell, III, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at his residence.

Born in Glade Spring, Virginia, on October 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Blackwell Jr. and Dorothy Clark Blackwell. He was a retired project manager with Lynchburg Steel and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Virginia Tech and served with the Corps of Cadets and he loved Virginia Tech football. He was an avid student of history and also enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by three children, Allyson Haga and her husband, Bruce, Adrienne Phipps, and Benjamin F. Blackwell, IV; one stepson, Howard Keith Hagy; one sister, Nancy Duncan and her husband, John; two grandchildren, Amber Phipps and Amanda Phipps; four step grandchildren, Nicholas Hagy, Rebecca Hagy, Emily Hagy and Jessica Hagy; and one step great-grandchild, Ezra Kit Hagy.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Meredith Elizabeth Haga and one stepdaughter, Julie Lynn Beaddles.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Everett Berryman officiating.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge his caregivers, Marian Haynes, Demetrius Thompson, Cathy Robinson, Tiffany Garland-Reeves, Darlene Garland, Catherine Pankey and Shaniqua Franklin for the wonderful and loving care they provided.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Meredith Haga Foundation, 2970 Hwy 11W, Blountville, TN 37617.
