Bessie Fisher Callahan Juare
Bessie "Nannie" Fisher Callahan Juare, 89, of Woodbridge, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Potomac Hospital, Woodbridge. She was the wife of the late Charles Milton Callahan and Joe Wallace Juare.
Born Jan. 11, 1917, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Mary Fisher.
She was of the Methodist faith and a member of American Legion Post 364 in Woodbridge. She enjoyed collecting antiques and unique collectables through estate auctions and Saturday yard sales. Among her many talents included quilting, which provided warmth and beauty to the homes of her children and their children. Her heart and home were always open to a stray cat or dog.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Milton Lee Callahan; a grandson, Reginald Charles Wilson; three sisters, Alice Fisher, Annie Fisher Wooldridge and Emma Fisher Callahan; and a brother, Robert Fisher.
She is survived by five daughters, Katherine Callahan Petrie and her husband, Kenneth Sr., Juanita Callahan Witt Durham and her husband, Joseph, Betty Callahan Wilson and her husband, Reginald, all of Lynchburg, Lucille Callahan Schmidt and her husband, James of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Essie Callahan Sheffey and her husband, Donald of Concord; and a devoted daughter-in-law, Sara Willis Callahan, wife of Milton Lee Callahan (deceased) of Woodbridge; three brothers, Vincent Fisher, Carrol Fisher and Carlton Fisher; a sister, Dorothy Fisher Cocke and her daughter, Lou Cocke Nelson; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Following a memorial service presented by the American Legion in Woodbridge, visitation will be held in Lynchburg from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, on her 90th birthday, at Diuguid Funeral Service, 21914 Timberlake Road. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Diuguid Funeral Service, Timberlake Road, with the Rev. Ray Lyons of Calvary Baptist Church, Bedford officiating.
Interment will follow in Callahan Family Cemetery, Evington. Following the interment, family and friends will be received at the home of her granddaughter, Regina Wilson Carter, 204 Earls Court, Lynchburg.
