Dorothy Daniel Obituary

Dorothy Mae Swift Daniel

February 28, 1952 - June 26, 2025

Dorothy Mae Swift Daniel of Amherst, Va., went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2025. Dorothy was born in Clifford, Va., on February 28, 1952 (being a leap year baby meant her age differed depending on who you ask). She was the daughter of the late Theodore Swift and Vera Mays Swift. She was married for 52 years to Harry Daniel, whom survives her. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Gail Daniel; as well as her brother, James Swift. She leaves behind her cherished son, Christopher Daniel, who was by her side till the end. She also leaves behind her loving granddaughter, Katie Nicole Daniel. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Samantha Martin Morris, Haley Martin, and Daisy Jones. Also surviving are her brothers, Bobby Swift and Harry Swift. Dorothy was a good Christian woman that kept strong in her faith till the end. She would wake up early every morning to read the scriptures and her daily devotionals. Many might remember her from Food Lion where she spent thirty years as a dedicated and valued employee, or some might remember her from her 15 years at the Madison Heights Garment Factory where she worked as a seamstress. The family would like for family and friends to join them Sunday evening, June 29, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m., for a family night visitation at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the funeral chapel, with burial to follow immediately after at Amherst Cemetery. Pastor Ray Triplett and Pastor Alvin Triplett will be officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider making memorial contributions to the Leukemia Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
