Edna Sims Parnell

Gretna- Edna Lorena Sims Milner Parnell, age 90, of 5957 Rockford School, Gretna, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 in the Gretna Health Care Center. Born January 30, 1917 in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Harry Sims and Olive Hook Sims. She was married to the late, Elrie Parnell. Mrs. Parnell was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was the first woman manger of a Jewel Box jewelry store. She is survived by two daughters, Ann M. Roach and husband, Fitz Roach, of Gretna and Harriet M. Pinion and husband, Fred Pinion, Sr., of Concord, NC; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC, by Reverend Dr. Lynn Marstin and her great-grandson, Reverend Joseph Giles, Jr. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence. The family suggests memorial be made to Midway Baptist Church Building Fund, 2136 Midway Road, Gretna, VA 24557. Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, VA is in charge of arrangements.
