Ethel Waugh Garbee

Ethel Waugh Garbee, 93, of Moneta, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Campbell Rest Home in Bedford. Born April 7, 1919 in Gloucester, NJ; she was a daughter of the late Aubrey Cleveland Waugh and Esta Duffield Waugh, and the widow of Henry Clifton Garbee.

Ethel graduated in 1935, at the age of 16, from E.C. Glass High School, Lynchburg, VA. She was a member of Morgans Baptist Church where she enjoyed all aspects of her church life. Ethel lived a vibrant life; she enjoyed square dancing and she waterskied until she was in her 80's. In addition to her husband and parents, Ethel was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Harris and Marie Garland. She is survived by two sons, Steven A. Garbee and wife, Judy of Brandon, FL, Dr. H. Wesley Garbee and wife, Cornelia of Asheville, NC; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight, May 22, 2012, at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, from 6 until 8 PM. A memorial service will be conducted at Morgans Baptist Church at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Morgans Baptist Church, PO Box 477, Moneta, VA 24121. Condolences may be sent online by visiting www.tharpfuneralhome.com.
