Eugene Turpin Obituary

Eugene Samuel "Sam" Turpin, Jr.

Eugene Samuel "Sam" Turpin, Jr., 69, of Rustburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Born in Lexington, "God's Country" on July 30, 1956, Sam was the son of the late Eugene S. Turpin, Sr. and Dorothy Bryson Turpin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Allen "Bobby" Turpin.

Sam retired from Walmart after many years of dedicated service and was known for his kind heart, gentle nature, long red hair, and love of sports.

A true sports enthusiast, Sam could always be found with ESPN playing in the background. He was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, Oakland A's, and college football-especially UVA and Washington & Lee. While generally a quiet man, his passion came alive in any conversation about sports.

He was deeply devoted to his family and cherished his roles as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Melinda Hope Turpin; three children, Eric Andrews (Dawn), Elizabeth Wallin (Steven), and Caity Steffy; four adored grandchildren, Andrew Wallin, Sarah Wallin, Owen Wallin, and Emma Andrews; his brother, Richard Lynn Turpin (Melanie); nieces and nephews, Heather Farmer (Tyer), Nicky Lee (Jacob), Ben Turpin (Heather), and McKayla Wood (Jesse); great nieces and nephews, Trent, Brenleigh, Walker, Laken, Bailee, Grady, Tripp, Chandler and Maverick; sister-in-law, Chris Turpin, as well as his treasured cat, Conor, and many other extended family members and friends.

A service to celebrate Sam's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at New Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Wallin officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Sam will be remembered for his quiet strength, warm heart, and unwavering love for his family and favorite teams. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
