Evelyn Sharp Obituary

Evelyn Elizabeth Sharp Evelyn Elizabeth Sharp, 87, of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. Born December 1, 1923 in Lynchburg she was a daughter of the late Joseph H. Sharp, Sr. and Elizabeth Evelyn Case Sharp Jones. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond P. Sharp and Joseph H. Sharp, Jr. and a sister, Annie Louise Sharp Scott. She is survived by her only son, John Sharp and daughter-in-law, Velvet Sharp of Forest; four grandchildren, John Jr., Lauryn, Madalyn and Benjamin Sharp; a special nephew who was more like a son, Thomas E. "Eddie" Jones and wife, Suzanne Davis Jones; a great niece, Christa Deanne Jones; a sister-in-law, Doris Sharp all of Forest and a great nephew, Troy Angus Jones of Rustburg. Evelyn was a longtime faithful member of Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she was a member of the Smoot Sunday School Class. Her hobbies included TOPS, Tuesday senior league bowling and lunch socials at the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging. She brought sunshine to all that met her. She worked many years for Blue Buckle in the 1950's and 1960's, delivered papers for The News and The Daily Advance, and was a longtime employee of High's Ice Cream. As she neared retirement, she also worked as a dishwasher for the Moose Lodge on Lakeside Drive. In her 70's, she took great pride in sitting with "the elderly" The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Guggenheimer Nursing Home and Centra Health Hospice for their loving care and support. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon Monday, November 14, 2011 at Memorial Christian Church by the Rev. Virgil Knipp and the Rev. Sue Knipp with burial to follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 2215 Park Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501 Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, (434) 239-2405 is assisting the family. I am extremely sorry to hear of your loss.
Mrs. Sharp was such a joy to work with. I loved going in & hearing her stories about her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed on the unit & will always hold a place in our hearts.
