Floyd Ruhane Bedsole

Floyd Ruhane Bedsole, 79, of Swinging Bridge Road, Gladys, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Betty Deane Mason Bedsole. Mr. Bedsole was born in Geneva, Ala., on Nov. 28, 1929, a son of the late Oree Bedsole and Jessie Harrison Owens. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, a graduate of Auburn University, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a retired civil service employee for the Department of the Navy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Charles Wesley Bedsole, and wife, Jamie, of Hastings, Iowa; three daughters, Patricia B. Hagan and husband, Michael, of Smith Mountain Lake, Sharon B. Whiteside and husband, Dave, of Hubert, N,C., and Donna Bedsole of Villas, N.J.; two stepsons, Jeffrey Carpenter and wife, Kathy, of Fredericksburg and Gregory Carpenter and wife, Veronica, of Dale City; one stepdaughter, Pamela C. McElvane, and husband, John, of Stafford; 23 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Hurley H. Bedsole of Huntsville, Ala.; and one sister, Myra B. Thomas of Mobile, Ala. He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Ruhane Bedsole Jr. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Shelby Royal with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 19, 2009, at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal, and at the residence other times. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
