Harold Clark
May 8, 1938 - September 14, 2025
Harold Grey Clark, 87, of Naruna, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2025 peacefully and surrounded by his family. Born on May 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Volney Clyde Clark and Margaret Fariss Clark. He was the second of six sons born and raised on a farm and held a lifelong loyalty and love for his family and home.
Harold was a dearly loved and blessed man. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 58 years, Juanita Wright Clark; his three loving daughters, Paula Clark, Gina Roberts (Scotty), and Tracey Clark; precious grandchildren Jadyn and Lauren Roberts; five brothers Cecil, Bobby, Ray, James Carol, and Keith Clark; brother-in-law James Wright (Linda); nephews Greg Wright, David Clark (Wendy), Stuart Clark (Crystal), Jason Clark (Tara), Tim Clark (Carrie), and Matt Clark (Katie) and other loving relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter Megan Elisabeth Roberts; and sisters-in-law Doris Clark and June Clark.
Harold was the strongest man we knew; a man who loved the Lord, his family, and his community. Part of the Class of 1957 at William Campbell High School, he was named the Scoring Champion for the State of Virginia in Group II Basketball with the highest state average. He often reminisced about scoring goals for both his team and the opposing team. It was also as a teenager that he realized his greatest goal of accepting the Lord and joining the church. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee where, for many years, he took great responsibility in helping families make final arrangements for their loved ones.
Harold retired from Central Virginia Training Center with 32 years of service as Supervisor of both the Payroll and Warehouse Departments. It was carpooling to work at CVTC where he met Juanita, the only woman he ever loved and the best decision he ever made. Our Mom was the greatest blessing of his life.
After retirement, he was blessed to have 34 years to pursue his real passion and became a full-time farmer. He loved raising tomatoes and sharing them with everyone he met especially at Clark Brothers Produce.
Harold loved hard work and he embraced every challenge, often preferring to do things the hard way. He could fix anything, had a great sense of humor, and was quite the prankster. We depended on him for every project because he could make all things turn out right. He loved to tell stories and make things grow. He noticed, cherished, and found joy in the simple things of life and taught us to do the same.
Harold Clark is the definition of a good man who was always willing to help anyone in need and he took great delight in being on his tractor bush hogging fields and pushing snow for others in the community. He enjoyed sharing his love of nature with his family reminding us that, as God watches over the birds in their nests. He will surely watch over us. He didn't hurry, he didn't worry, and he was happy right where the Lord placed him, in Naruna, Va. He grew up there hunting, fishing, and working the farm in a house full of boys who he remained close to all his life and he raised his own family there, a house full of girls who came home real often. There was no place he would rather be surrounded by his family. He was fully present and invested time and love in our lives the whole way through. There is no greater gift.
He was the head of our family and faced every challenge with grit, determination, and courage. He taught us by example to be honest (his word was his bond) and to treat people right, to never give up and fight the good fight. His greatest lesson was that living a life of integrity isn't about what you say but what you do. He always came through for us and protected us in all life's events right to the end.
Harold's legacy was a life of service and taking care of others. Every family gathering, tomato in the field, deer in the woods, drive through the country, and, of course, hot summer day will be reminders of the blessing he was to our lives and the goodness of the Lord he served. We are so grateful and thankful for the life he lived.
Harold's life is truly reflected in scripture. "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus," (Philippians 3:14); "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7).
How blessed are we to have had someone in our lives for whom it is so hard to say goodbye, if only for a little while!
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Roberts and the Rev. Jamie Adams, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the service.
