James Edward Taylor

1946 - 2023

James Edward Taylor, 76, of Lynchburg, went to be with his Lord Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Born in Newport News, Va., September 16, 1946, he was the son of the late James Keith Taylor and Margaret Layne Taylor. Jim was a United States Navy veteran and served two tours during the Viet Nam war. He retired from B & W after 33 years of service. He was very community focused and enjoyed working with Junior Achievement, The Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew, serving as Chief for several years. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church and served as Deacon, worked with the Youth Group, and was invooved on many mission trips.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison Taylor Paris.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Maryanne L. Taylor; three sons, James S.Taylor (Ingrid), Jamie C. Taylor (Melanie) and James Masten Taylor; one daughter, Amber Taylor Wilson (David); two sisters, Vivian M. Wilson (Calvin) and Norma Jean Peterson; one brother, Douglas W. Taylor (Angie); 10 grandchildren, Savannah Revis, James Z. Taylor, Madison Brooke, Emily Paris, James A. Taylor, Reagan Taylor, Abigail Wilson, Madeline Wilson, Sam Hackworth and Gabe Hackworth.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at West Lynchburg Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of his daughter, Amber.
