JOHN PAGE Obituary

John Cary Page John Cary Page, 94, passed away peacefully at his home, Martha Jefferson House, in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 15, 2012.

Mr. Page graduated from Episcopal High School in 1936 and the University of Virginia School of Architecture in 1941. He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, South Carolina during World War II. While in service he met his future wife Anne Meredith Jones of Connecticut and they wed shortly before the end of the War. A natural artist and photographer, he specialized in architecture and spent the majority of his professional career with Wiley & Wilson in Lynchburg, Virginia where he designed numerous churches, schools, hospitals and private homes. He spent his retirement years at his previous home in Lynchburg enjoying gardening and the propagation of lilies before moving back to Charlottesville in 2012. Mr. Page was the youngest son of the late, past Dean of the University of Virginia, James Morris Page and Elinore McGlone Page of Charlottesville. His wife and all of his siblings predeceased him. Surviving him are his nieces: Page Parrish Wright of Richmond, Anne Daniel Fowler of Newport News and Constance Daniel Palmer of Charlottesville; his nephew James Nelson Daniel, Jr. of Glenview, Illinois; and fifteen great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom fondly remember him as "Uncle Boo". Services will be private. The family of Mr. Page extends a special thank you to the staff at Martha Jefferson House, for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Martha Jefferson House, 1600 Gordon Ave., Charlottesville, VA 22903-1918. Friends may sign the register book at www.hillandwood.com

Boo was a wonderful part of my childhood, but I love him most for the compassion he showed for my Mother (Aline Echols) during her struggle with Alzheimer's. The lilies he planted for her have thrived and we smile often remembering him.

John Page was a long-time, dear friend. He and his very funny wife, Ann, were two of my favorite people. I'll always treasure John's and my 43-year friendship. My sincere sympathy to his nieces and nephews.
