Juanita CUNNINGHAM Obituary
Juanita Calloway Cunningham, 84, of 3449 Marysville Road, Altavista, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009. She was the wife of the late Melvin A. Cunningham.
Born July 14, 1924, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sally Merrill Calloway.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin Vince Cunningham and his wife, Rosa, of Nathalie, and Phillip M. Cunningham and his wife, Shelby Jean, of Hurt; a daughter, Juanita Elizabeth Gray, of the residence; two brothers, Albert B. Calloway and his wife, Frances, and Lamont C. Calloway and his wife, Edith, all of Altavista; and seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Marysville Road, Altavista, by the Rev. Major Gilbert. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from noon until the hour of service. The cortege will assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the residence.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family meeting their friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today, July 14, 2009, at the chapel of the Cook and Minnis Funeral Home of Altavista.

I will always remember the Sundays our two families spent together after Church. We loved talking to our dear aunt and uncle Melvin, our cousins ,Vince, Elizabeth and Phillip. Aunt Nita was one of my favorite aunts. She was always so very sweet, kind and Genuine . I want to tell you that I will keep a watch-out for Elizabeth but it is God that will give her the strength she needs to carry on. Prayerfully submitted

I will miss Aunt Nita and I am sad about her passing. I wish we lived in a world where we aren't separated from those we love by death. Thank God that death is the last enemy that will be defeated and that one day there will be no more death. But for now, we can comfort ourselves with God's promise, "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus."
