Linda Carey Obituary

Linda Fishpaw Carey

June 25, 2025

Linda Fishpaw Carey peacefully passed into the presence of her lord on June 25, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Roy Fishpaw and Norma Jean Fishpaw and graduated from Brookville High School.

Linda is survived by her husband Danny, of Evington, Va, her brother Sonny Fishpaw of Richmond, Va, her daughters, Shannon Stokes, husband Brian, of Lynch Station, Va, and Erin Whitted of Waldorf, Md, and her two grandchildren, Braxton Carey and Hunter Stokes.

Linda's kind and loving nature was reflected by her love of taking care of children as she did for over 30 years. Upon retirement from child care Linda remained involved in the lives of children as an employee of Campbell County Schools. Those bonds remain strong and have been reflected by the love and generosity of so many. Linda was fortunate to have many friends and family members in her life who stood vigilantly by her side with unwavering love and support during her illness.

A memorial service is planned for July 18th at 1:00 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian in Lynchburg, and will receive friends and family immediately afterwards.

Linda was such a sweet, thoughtful and kind friend! She was a wonderful caregiver and second mom to our two boys during there early years and also as they grew and graduated high school, college and married. I will be forever grateful of the care and patience she took of my boys. We will treasure all the special memories we have of her and will keep Danny, the girls and family in our thoughts and prayers.

The impact that Linda had on my life knows no bounds. I have countless memories of my time with her when I was a small child; from riding horses with Shannon, to decorating Christmas cookies, naps under her grandfather clock, to riding our big wheels put and down her driveway a thousand times. In her home I always felt so safe and loved. I have friends to this day that I met while staying with Linda. She made a lasting impression on my life and who I am today. I will cherish those memories forever.

The memories I hold dear of Linda are endless. She was a devoted friend, a wonderful neighbor and a second mom to my two sons. She always put others before herself and did so until she took her last breath. I will miss her tremendously, but we will meet again in the beautiful flower gardens in heaven.
Erin, Shannon and Danny, cherish your memories, and I pray that God wraps his arms around you with comfort daily.
