"Luke" Rowland

Luther James "Luke" Rowland, 78, of 22221 U.S. Highway 29, Chatham, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his residence.

Born March 1, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Edison S. Rowland and Alice Saunders Rowland. He was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church and was an army veteran. Mr. Rowland was formerly employed by Klopman and was also a farmer.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Russell Rowland and Ray Rowland.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Haskins Rowland, of the residence; three sons, Mark Dean Rowland Sr. and wife, Kimberly, of Gretna; Victor Hudson and wife, Shelia, of Altavista; and Paul Rigney and friend, Shannon Green, of Chatham; a daughter, Donna Rowland Johnson, and friend, Bill McBride, of Gretna; four brothers, Guy Rowland of Pittsville; Kenneth Rowland and wife, Shirleen, of Hurt; George Rowland and wife, Nancy, of Hurt; and Raymond Rowland of Evington; three sisters, Beulah Shelton of Danville; Nan Jacobs and husband, Wesley, of Gretna; and Naomi Fletcher and husband, Chet, of Tennessee; and eight grandchildren, four

great-grandchildren and two special people, Jimmy Johnson and Connie Rowland.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at Oak Grove Christian Church by Frank Fuller, minister, the Rev. R.G. Rowland and Lory Brafford, minister. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, July 30, 2009, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
