Mary Hise Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Hise

Mary Elizabeth Hise 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. As someone said, "a great day, not only for mom, but for Jesus. He's been waiting for eternity and now finally gets to see his child face to face".

Mary recently resided in Rustburg, Virginia, but her heart belonged to her home of 56 years in Monroe, Virginia. She lived for many years with numerous adventures along the way. She was married to Jim Hise, who proceeded her in death. She was also proceeded in death by her parents, Albert and Ruth Gay; and her daughter-in-law, Amy Hise.

Mary was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 50 years. She worked many different jobs over her lifetime, but her favorite job was working at Temple Christian School for 19 years. While at the school she worked as an assistant in the K-4 class, took care of children in the Before and After-School Programs, worked in the cafeteria, and then ran the Snack Room at the school. She had many great friends at school as well as many students who fondly remember her to this day.

Some of her greatest accomplishments were her biological children. She has five of them, Jimmy Hise, Brenda Davis, Debbie Goldsmith, Jerry Hise, and Johnny Hise. Just as important to her were her other children, Frank Davis, Bruce Goldsmith, Leslie Hise, and Sharon Hise. Even though they "married" into the family, she loved them like they were her own. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Her children honored her as best they could, taking great care of her during her last few years. Times were not easy for Mary in the past few years, especially the past few months, but she never once complained.

We cannot go without mentioning her best friend Mary Loyd. These two ladies met very soon after mom moved to this area, over 50 years ago, and were as thick as thieves ever since they met. They talked almost every day. We are so grateful that she had such a wonderful friend in this life.

Mom enjoyed traveling when she was able. She also loved the Lord, and she loved "church". On Sunday mornings, after she could no longer travel to church, she would stream several different services on her phone or tablet. Thank you to Faith Baptist Church in Madison Heights and Timberlake Baptist Church in Danville for streaming your services for her to enjoy.

Mom was well known in the Madison Heights area. She was at the ball field when we were young, she went to every baseball game she could when her kids and grandkids were playing. When she no longer had anyone playing baseball, she was watching it on television. She always watched the Little League World Series Games every year as well as college softball and baseball.

She will be missed, but we know that 2 Corinthians 5:8 states "To Be Absent From The Body Is To Be Present With The Lord", when you know that Jesus is your Lord and Savior. We rest on this promise.

We would like to thank Tate Springs Health and Rehabilitation for their attention and care, as well Kim Kennedy, NP, for going above and beyond to help us care for mom. Additionally, we would like to thank Anthony Slaughter, her friend and caregiver, for his laughter, attention, care, and love that he showed to her over the past four years.

A funeral service will be held at Whitten Monelison Chapel on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Gideons at www.gideons.org/donate.
