Michael "Mike" Wayne Cassidy, age 64, of Lynchburg, Virginia, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

A lifelong Lynchburg resident, Mike was born on December 20, 1960, and called this community home for all of his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Frank Lee Cassidy and Nancy Williams Cassidy, of Lynchburg. He is survived by his devoted wife, Wendy Rutledge Cassidy; his sons, Jacob Michael Cassidy, Zachary Wayne Cassidy and Matthew Garrett Cassidy; his sisters, Carole Cassidy Cross, and Susan Lynn Maddox (and husband Dale Maddox); and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Mike built his professional life with steady purpose and full heart. He worked as a surveyor and most recently retired from the City of Lynchburg's Surveying Department, where his precision, integrity and commitment served the community well. Earlier in his career, following his undergraduate pursuits, he earned a degree in underwater technology and spent time doing underwater construction and bridge inspection in North Carolina - a rare combination of deep-water expertise and civil-engineering grit.

A devoted husband and father, Mike treasured his role coaching youth baseball and creating memories with his three sons. He loved nothing more than a lively family night, time spent outdoors, or the sound of waves at the ocean - a place that brought him joy and peace. His love of the outdoors, his coaching spirit, his caring nature and his loyalty to family made him a true anchor in life for those he loved.

A visitation will be held at Whitten Funeral Home, Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, on Monday evening, November 10, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Timberlake Christian Church, 20261 Lynchburg Highway, Lynchburg, VA 24502. A graveside service will follow immediately thereafter.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Timberlake Christian Church or to any local baseball program - Mike held a special place in his heart for youth baseball and the programs of the University of Lynchburg baseball team. Your support of these causes honors his legacy of service, encouragement, and family-centered faith.

Mike's memory lives on in the laughter of the baseball diamond, the quiet moments by the water, the steady profession work of a surveyor, and the unconditional love he gave to his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
