Paul Rutigliano Obituary

Paul Rutigliano

August 26, 1955 - August 21, 2024

Paul Walter Rutigliano, 68, of Forest, Va. passed away and entered his heavenly home surrounded by his family on August 21, 2024, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Paul was born August 26, 1955, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Age 68, beloved husband of Cynthia (nee Sebold); loving father of Amanda and Kristen (Brent); devoted grandfather of Ryder, Cole, and Wyatt; cherished son of Samuel and Barbara Rutigliano; dearest brother of Alison (Timothy) Kerry (David), and the late Nancy; and dear uncle and adored cousin of many. Affectionately known as "Pal" to his grandchildren, Paul lived his life as his nickname suggests, exemplifying the treasured traits of a friend throughout his life even in the most difficult times.

Paul devoted his professional life to the landscape of sports. From his sports reporting at WKYC 3News to his work as an account executive at IMG to his dedication of over three decades at Liberty University serving in various positions, as Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations, radio and television color commentator for the Flames Sports Network, and as Director for the Letterwinners Association, Paul pursued each role with an energetic sense of humor and a servant's heart.

And it was his servant's heart that inspired so many, especially during the last courageous battle of his life. Paul fought with a lion's heart, a heart that trusted Jesus Christ. No struggle deterred Paul from the belief God's will would be fulfilled in his life. Throughout, Paul sought refuge in God's word, soothed by His love; renewed by His promises. He shared this resilient joy like a true Liberty University Flame: Paul was a Champion for Christ.

His family gives thanks to the medical staff who cared for Paul at Lynchburg General Hospital, Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital, University of Virginia Medical Center, and the Cleveland Clinic. A special word of gratitude to the nurses and support staff who cared for him: Your unrelenting care and dedication to Paul truly made love visible.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the extraordinary life of Paul Rutigliano at Liberty University's Thomas Road Church, Pate Chapel, 1 Mountain View Road Lynchburg, VA 24502, Monday, September 16, 2024, at 1:30 with a reception to follow.
