Percy Moorefield

GRETNAPercy Taylor Moorefield, 90, of 5640 Deerview Road, Gretna, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Gretna Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 4, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Millard Taylor Moorefield and Mollie Poole Moorefield Kelly. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Lila Barbour Moorefield, and two brothers, Millard Moorefield Jr. and Verco Moorefield. Mr. Moorefield was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and the owner of Moorefield's Grocery. He enjoyed farming, gardening, flowers and his cat "Tom Boy." Mr. Moorefield loved spending time with his family and he affectionately called his great-grandchildren "his Goats".

He is survived by one son, Kenneth Moorefield and wife, Dale, of Hurt; two daughters, JoAnn Hall and husband, James, of Gretna and Diane Crews and husband, Kenneth, of Hurt; two sisters, Inez Elliott, of Altavista, and Audrey Epperson, of Nathalie; four grandchildren, Penny Haley and husband, Charlie, Kenneth Moorefield Jr. and wife, Cathy, Kim Crews and fianc‚, Troy Owen, and Kristy Terry and husband, Jamie; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Haley, Chandler Haley, Brooke Moorefield, Blair Moorefield, Reece Terry and Colby Terry; and a special friend, Ray Dalton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Matthew Speck. Interment will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, June 13, 2010, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2261 Piney Grove Road, Gretna, VA 24557.

Colbert Moran Funeral Home, Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

To Kenneth,Ricky and The Moorefield Family,
Sorry to hear about the passing of Percy,He was a very good man.I have known Percy,Lila and the Moorefield family from childhood.I always loved going to their store and loved talking to them while waiting for my order,even after I moved away from where I lived down the road from the store,I still would always stop in whenever I was in the area everytime until he was no longer running it.I know that he will be welled missed and I know that he is gone to a much better place to live,In heaven with his wife and God.You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
