Thinking about my shipmates and COB (Pete) was one of the most influential. He was tough but fair and could go from kicking your butt to holding you up in a heartbeat. We butted heads at first but he showed me that all he wanted was to make me a better man and I can never repay him enough. Fair winds and following seas Shipmate!

I served with Pete on the USS Finback and routinely crossed paths with him after that. He was a consummate profesional and I was and am still happy to call him "shipmate". His suffering is now over and he is in a better place. My prayers are with his family.

As I looked through some of the other entries, I know so many of these same people. It is a small world we live in and Pete was one of the people who made it fun! Pete and I joined the Navy I think in the same month, we did STS training together I went to Finback then we did shore duty together, made E-6 on the same day then he went to Finback and started his meteoric rise to STS superstar. Our paths crossed many times and we were always there for advice - he was like a brother. I tried to hire him when he retired, he wanted to stay local. I am sitting here writing this and my eyes are all tearing up, damn I am going to miss you.

I just want you each to know what a pleasure it has been to have know your husband/your father. I will always treasure his funny stories, but more his guidance in all things...great and small. He will be so missed. God will uphold each of you through this saddened time. For now, just celebrate his life and treasure the wonderful memories he has left behind.

Dana,Shauna and Heather: my eyes tear up each ime I think of your loss.Rest assured the pain of your loss will diminish, over time, though will never fully dissipate. Pete was a great man, shipmate and friend. And, from all the stories I've heard an even better husband and father. When my dad left this mortal plain, a friend sent me the words below.They have helped to ease the pain of hid loss.They remind me that there is a reason. And, that someday we will be together, again. Please try to find the same comfort, in them, as I do everyday.Debbie and I are saddened by your loss and pray that you will all celbrate Pete's life.

To Pete's family,
I smile more today because I knew Pete. I enjoy life more today because I knew Pete. I can laugh at myself more because I knew Pete. He was a wonderful friend, shipmate, and person.

Dana, Shauna, and Heather, Dee and my thoughts and prayers are with you as well as the thoughts and prayers of all the ARCHERFISH Shipmates. Pete touched so many people and left positive impressions with all of them. His laughter, sense of humor, and no BS attitude will be missed.
I wish Dee and I could be there with you all during this terrible time, but unfortunately with work I just can't get away.
The natural tendancy is to mourn is death. But if you celebrate his life instead, it will have more meaning and make you feel better about all of the positives that Pete brought to this world for us, for you, and to all who met him.
"There is a port of no return, where ships may ride at anchor for a little space. And then some starless night the cable slips leaving only an eddy at the mooring place. Gulls vear no longer, Sailor Rest your oar. No tangled wreckage will be washed ashore."

I wish that I could find some words of comfort to heal your hurt right at this moment but I know only time can do that.
Of all the blessings in my life, I am so glad I got to know your husband. Pete was truly a remarkable man.
Those of us who worked with Pete also feel the lost. Pete was not only our mentor but our extended family. As he often spoke about the 3 of you, I felt the love he had for each of you.
