Ronald Lee Cyrus

Ronald (Ronnie) Lee Cyrus, 61, of Rustburg, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at UVa Hospital. Born July 14, 1949, in Lynchburg, he was the son of Edith Litchford Cyrus and the late Andrew Baxter Cyrus.

Ronald was a retired clerk for the Virginia Department of Transportation, and a member of New Chapel Baptist Church and the Christian Herald Sunday school class. He also served there as a deacon for many years and was active in the deacon ministry.

In addition to his father, Ronald is preceded in death by one niece, Mary Louise Rogers.

In addition to his mother, Ronald is survived by one son, Lee Cyrus, and his wife, Cherie, of Appomattox; one sister, Lavern Rogers, of Rustburg; one niece, Kim Dinwiddie and her husband, David, of Gladys; one great-niece, Sarah Dinwiddie, also of Gladys; and Lee's mother, Chris Cyrus, of Appomattox.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at New Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Dooley and Rev. George Kreidel Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at New Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Dec. 19, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, NY 10016; or the New Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2084 New Chapel Road, Rustburg, VA 24588.
