Roy HUDSON Obituary

Roy Preston Hudson

Roy Preston Hudson, 82, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving children.

Mr. Hudson was born May 15, 1926, in Campbell County, a son of the late Robert L. Hudson and the late Ida Virginia Wells Hudson. Roy was retired as a Correctional Officer for United States Government and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his children, Roy Hudson Jr. and wife, Linda, of Tallahassee, Fla., Robert Hudson and wife, Aylene, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Rhonda Hudson Mark and husband, Daniel, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Frances "Sue" Netro of Lynchburg; his step-children, Tracey T. Powell of Lynchburg, Tina R. Tedder of Goode, Leonard Troy Roach of Lynchburg; a brother, Henry Hudson and his wife, Avon, of Lynchburg, and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Virginia Mason Hudson and Jane Withers Hudson, a son, Walter Worley, eight brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 6, 2008, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Madison officiating, with Military Honors by American Legion Post 16.

The family requests memorial contributions may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #8, 2337 Lakeside Drive, in care of Marine Corps League, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

I'm sorry for your loss. Uncle Roy was very kind to our family and even "rescued" John when our van broke down near his home (way back in 1979!).
