Rudolph Cyrus Obituary

Rudolph "Rudy" Adolphus Cyrus, 71, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Dec. 30, 1935, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Adolphus Richard Cyrus and Rena Staton Cyrus.
He was retired from W.W. Boxley as a tower operator. He was a driver for the Lynchburg Transit Company, a dispatcher and volunteer for the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew and a Deputy Sheriff for the city. Mr. Cyrus boxed with the Golden Glove Boxing Association and was a member of the Duck Pin Bowling League.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, the Rev. Edward Cyrus, Albert Cyrus and Carlton Cyrus; and four sisters, Fannie Wade, Mildred Shoemaker, Shirley Cash and Joyce Wall.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn Cyrus and wife, Patricia, of Lynchburg, Greg Cyrus and wife, Wendy, of Monroe, and Kenny Cyrus and wife, Codie, of Grit; his daughter, Wendy Cyrus, of Evington; a brother, Clifton Cyrus and wife, Lorene, of Madison Heights; and a sister, Phyllis Lischer and husband, Manfred, of Madison Heights; four grandchildren, Brandon, Brooke, Ken and Greg Cyrus Jr.; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will take place in Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Greg Cyrus, 258 Woodrow Ave. in Monroe.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions may consider the Monelison or Amherst Volunteer Rescue Squads.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fairmont Crossing and Dr. McNeil and his staff at Lynchburg Hematology and Oncology for the care given to Mr. Cyrus.
