Tom Evans Crush, 83, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, formerly of Forest, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, at his home.
Born in Petersburg, VA, on July 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Evans McDowell Crush and Anne Hudgings Crush. Tom grew up in Richmond and Williamsburg, VA, where he developed a lifelong love of learning, service, and the outdoors. Tom was an Eagle Scout and the highlight of his scouting days was his trip to Philmont, Tom went on to graduate from the Virginia Military Institute 1964 and served honorably as an officer in the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career as a civil engineer, where he left a lasting mark on the communities he served.
Tom was a devout Christian and a longtime member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA. He was also an active member of the Forest Lions Club. Throughout his life, Tom gave generously of his time and talents to his church and charitable organizations, guided by his faith and his commitment to helping others. His life was a testimony to humble leadership, kindness, and integrity.
Above all, Tom cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in time spent with his loved ones-whether gathered around the table, sharing stories, or cheering on his grandchildren in their pursuits. His steady presence, sense of humor, and encouragement will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 55 years, Dianne Tate Crush; their children, Andrew McDowell Crush and wife Elizabeth, Matthew Tate Crush and wife Joy, and Laura Crush Hale and husband Gideon; beloved grandchildren, Drew Sigler, Amelia Crush, Wyatt Crush, Nolan Crush, and Anna Hale; and his sister Judith Crush.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, VA, on October 11th at 11 a.m. with a reception following the service.
