Nichols - Alex, 84, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away on January 5, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sally Wheatley
Nichols; his children, William Nichols (Regina), and Eleanor
Morgan (Anthony); and his 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Alexis Quartararo (Anthony). Born in Austria, he was the son of Nicolai and Natalia (Konstantinowitch)
Krasnyansky; and the brother of Galina Franz. Alex graduated from North Shore High School in Glen Head, NY, and attended the University of Maryland, where he was a collegiate soccer player. A summer job as a truck driver with R.B. Hamilton in Roslyn Heights, NY, sparked his entrepreneurial spirit and led to a groundbreaking career in the air transport industry. As an early pioneer, he played a key role in the safe transport of horses, cattle, and other animals. He also designed and constructed the early prototype Jetstall, which remains the industry standard for equine transport on wide-body aircraft. A successful businessman, Alex founded Airline Container Leasing in Oceanside, NY and Greenville, SC, and launched several other ventures throughout his life. He remained active in business until his passing. Over the last 25 years, he made his home in Fort Lauderdale, FL, after previously living in Glen Cove, Laurel Hollow, and Old Brookville, NY. Alex had a deep love and respect for animals and was passionate about boats and airplanes. He cherished 15 summers on Nantucket with his three children and 10 grandchildren. Alex never forgot his modest beginnings and his legacy will be with the people he helped. Whether you were a family member or someone that needed a leg up, in his own way, he would help pave the way for their success. Known for his strong work ethic and problem solving, he was demanding and deeply dedicated to his work and the people around him. He was a gifted storyteller, teacher, and mentor to many. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father. Alex was a champion in life because of his family, friends, and the lives he helped along the way. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date in Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the
