Ann Pellaton Obituary

PELLATON - Ann, was born January 1, 1921, to Clotilde and Salvatore Scrofani in Bridgeport, CT, but moved at the age of 6 to Port Washington, NY, where she remained for the rest of her life. She began her college studies in 1938 but interrupted them to marry Pierre J.J. Pellaton in 1940. She started painting in 1956 and returned to Queens College in 1958 earning her Masters in Art Education while studying with Barse Miller, Leonard Goldblatt, John Ferren, and later with Paul Wood and Angelo Longo. She then went on to teach art and industrial shop in the local schools. Beginning with her family's home on lower Main Street she lived her entire life within sight of Manhasset Bay which inspired many of her early paintings. She exhibited widely in museums and galleries, is listed in Who's Who in American Women and was a president of the National Association of Women Artists. She was one of the first women ever admitted to the Chevalier Tastevin de Bourgogne. She is to be honored for her long career by The Art Guild this December. Ann traveled all over the world and her many experiences can be seen in her art, both in the subject matter depicted and in the techniques and ever changing themes of her painting. Her love of music can also be seen in her work in the rhythms and energies shown in her brushwork, using intense colors and bold designs. Ann was open to the various movements and bourgeoning insights of the entire world of art. She found a way to blend them into her own personal style. The result was art that timelessly incorporates all the forward steps in ancient, past and modern art. Amazing! Loved by all, Ann was known as The Baronessa, "the little lady with great talent, an infectious laugh and a zest for life." She is survived by 3 sons, Thomas, Charles and R. John, and by 2 grandchildren. Memorial Donations can be made in her name to The Art Guild, Elderfields Preserve in Manhasset. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
