Annie McGroary Obituary

McGROARY - Annie Waters. Widow of John McGroary (Meenalig, Co. Donegal, Ireland) who predeceased her in 1977. A resident of Gibson, Valley Stream, NY since 1980, Mom previously lived in Far Rockaway, where she was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary, Star of the Sea. She was born in Montiagh, Co. Sligo, the daughter of Ellen Cafferty Waters and Patrick Waters, and emigrated to NY in 1928 at age 17. She was married at St. Mary's in 1937, and is survived by two grieving children, Mary Ellen, with whom she lived in Gibson, and Patrick J. (Jeannie O'Shea) of East Atlantic Beach. She is also mourned by three cherished grandchildren: Kelly Ann McGroary Light (Tim) of Iowa City, Tara McGroary Reagan (Terrence) of East Atlantic Beach and Owen O'Shea of East Atlantic Beach. In addition, she will be greatly missed by three beloved great-grandchildren: Jake Patrick Reagan, Julia L. Reagan and Rosella Ann Light. Cherished aunt of many nieces, nephews and extended fmily in the US, Ireland and the British Isles. She will be missed by family, neighbors and friends of a lifetime. Mom is predeceased by three sisters: Kathleen Waters, Helen Waters McGoldrick and Bridget Waters Fleming and two brothers, Pake and Tommy. Mom was a parishioner of St. Joseph's in Hewlett in her later years and also in her early ones, from 1928 until 1937, when she married and moved to Far Rockaway. She retired in 1980 at age 70 after 20 very happy years as a dining room waitress at Levine's Catering Hall in Belle Harbor, NY. Reposing Macken Mortuary Rockville Centre Chapel, 52 Clinton Avenue Sunday, October 25th, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Hewlett NY, Monday, October 26th, 9:45am. Interment to follow at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, NY. mackenmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be directed to: Executive Director, FDNY (Fire Department of New York) Foundation, 7 Metrotech Center, Broklyn NY 11201.
