I met Augusta in 1993 when I started working at The Bank of Smithtown. I was a teller at that time. When I was hired, she would come to my window with her transaction, and was always just so nice. Many years later I got to know her better, and we had become good friends. Later I had been excelled into the corporate part of the company, and she was still around. We would have coffee in the lunch room every time she came to the bank. She was just the most amazing woman I had ever met. She was just so down to earth, and it was just such a pleasure to spend time with her. I could have spent the whole day listening to her stories. She had an amazing life. Augusta used to come to the bank every so often to have lunch with Judy and Anita from the bank, and she would always invite me to have lunch with them. The times I was invited always meant so much to me. I had always enjoyed hey company.
One day, Augusta and I went out shopping for grass seed. We went to a store she had known, but they had changed over the years and she was not happy with the store. I told her lets go to Wal-Mart and check them out. She told me she had never been to a Wal-Mart. I told her let's check it out anyway. (It was on our way back to her house any way). We went into the store and her eyes lit up. She could not believe that there was a store that had prices like they had. Well after a few minutes in the store, she had a cart full of stuff for the house. Most of what she bought was for her Angel. My god she was 90 years old and filled up her cart, and was pushing it though the store with ease. I could barely keep up with her. She had so much energy. It was just so amazing. The only person I had ever met with her stamina was my grandmother, who was just as amazing as she was. I lost my grandmother many years ago and miss her so much. She had outlived my mother by many years which hurt her much.
I am so sad Augusta is gone now. I would have imagined her even outliving me. I will miss her dearly. Her passing hurt me so much. She was an icon. My heart hurts today because I felt like she was part of my family. She was just so amazing.
She is with her brothers that she loved so much. She will also be happy that her Angel will be taken care of. Angel was her most love in the world.
Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed.
Love,
Jim
