Douglas J. Baylis

Baylis - Douglas J., November 18, 1944 - November 27, 2024. Born to Howard and Norma Baylis and raised in Valley Stream, NY, Doug attended Valley Stream Central High School where he played baseball, basketball and soccer, then graduated from C.W. Post, where he captained the soccer team. He married Diane Muller of Bellmore after he was drafted into the army and packed up an MG and drove to Ft. Polk, LA and then later back to Ft. Hamilton, NY. After discharge he was a probation officer and then coordinator of the Anchor Program with the Town of Hempstead. He worked at New York Life Insurance Company for 35 years until his retirement. Besides being a dedicated family man, Doug's passion was sports, all sports. He was an avid golfer with two confirmed holes in one and the rumor of a third. He played soccer through college and later with Lynbrook Stueben Soccer Club. He played until he couldn't anymore. He coached both of his children at Wantagh PAL Soccer Club-he was very proud both played NCAA D1 and both still play today. He wrapped up his coaching career as the Men's Soccer Coach at Molloy College. He was an avid and long-suffering fan of both Jets and Mets. At his passing, he was a resident of The Club at Briarcliff Manor in Briarcliff Manor, NY where he found partners in crime. He did not go gently into that good night. He was always up for an adventure and rounded up co-conspirators. Every cheeseburger was the best he ever had. Doug was predeceased by his wife, Diane, to whom he was married for 54 years. He is survived by his son Douglas and his wife Sharon, nee Rozsas, and their two children Brooke and Brianna of Hartsdale, NY; and his daughter Randi and her husband Kyle Conway, and their two children Kathryn and Caroline of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and cousins who know that he was the fun uncle and the instigator of all the shenanigans.While he will be missed, he lived every minute to the fullest.
