Elizabeth SPIEZIO Obituary

SPIEZIO - Elizabeth (Betty) 78, died peacefully at home with her family on October 26, 2015, after a long illness. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Byrne. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gioacchino (Jack) Spiezio, their children, Julie and partner Carolyn Cobb, John and wife Sheila (nee King), and James, as well as her five grandchildren, Caroline, John, Olivia, Joseph, and Daniel, and her three siblings, Marylou Russo, Joseph Byrne, and Carol Walker. Betty spent her entire life in New York, where she was born on September 10, 1937, growing up in Queens and later moving out to her favorite place, Massapequa Park on Long Island. She loved cooking, mystery novels, and all things Irish. She was an avid supporter of the Mets, even during their worst seasons. Her capacity for unconditional love stretched past her favorite baseball team. Betty always treated her friends and family with love and compassion. She will be remembered for her endless support, generosity, and patience for those she loved. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Betty's favorite Catholic School, St. Rose of Lima, Massapequa Park, NY, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Reposing at Massapequa Funeral Home Inc. North Chapel, 1050 Park Blvd. (Co. Clark) Massapequa Park, N.Y. 11762 Thursday and Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 9am at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.

I will remember her fondly, having only met her, how she interacted with my wheelchair bound husband, as we played monopoly and ate pizza.
She is undoubtedly residing on the "Boardwalk" in heaven.

So many memories......ball games at Shea and Citi, dinners out, talking, laughing. I will miss her advice and wisdom, her laugh and humor. Betty could always sort through life's clutter to find the truth.....a rare gift.
