Florence BUERMANN Obituary

BUERMANN - Florence, age 94, of Huntington Bay, died on January 16, 2013, in Huntington. NY. Born August 19, 1918 in Gloucester, MA, she is predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Lilia Saunders and her late husband of over 50 years, Thomas Buermann, retired President of Gibbs & Cox. Florence (also known as "Suzi" by her family and friends) grew up in the Town of Gloucester, MA where her mother was a Ships Chandler and engaged in the family business of manufacture of oil cloth. She graduated from St. Agatha's School for Girls (Trinity School) and attended Columbia University. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a personnel assistant for Ms. Rosenthal of Morgan Guarantee Bank. A child model, she was active in children's theater, volunteering at Planting Fields Arboretum, and was active in Junior League of LI. Survivors include her daughter and son, Nancy Konopacki of Suffield, CT and Peter Buermann of New York, NY; grandaughter, Lisa Konopacki of Seattle, WA and grandson Andrew Konopacki of Latham, NY. In keeping with her wishes, a memorial service will be held in the Spring when the flowers are in bloom and will be held at the Old First Church in Huntington, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk. Arrangements entrusted to A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home.
