Frances Garlasco Obituary

Garlasco - Frances M., of Granby, CT, and formally of East Northport, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 11, 2021. Frances is survived by her husband of 67 years Felix M. Garlasco; a sister, Adrienne Donohue and her husband, Tom; a son, Mark Garlasco and his wife Kathy; a daughter, Phyllis Dougherty and her husband Kingsley; three grandchildren, John Paul and Gina Garlasco, and Tara DeBarbieris and her husband Brad; two great-grandchildren, Nicolas Garlasco and Luna DeBarbieris; and nephews, Michael Donohue and his wife Bern Broudy, and Christopher Donohue. She is predeceased by a son, John Garlasco. Frances was born on April 30, 1931, in Fairview, NJ, to the late Frank Rosingana and Ester (Sanlorenzo) Rosingana both who immigrated from Northern Italy. She grew up in Manhattan in an Italian neighborhood and was the curator of that culture for her beloved family throughout her life. She graduated from Julia Richman High School in New York City with a business diploma where she was known as an excellent student who was friendly, attractive, and having a maturity beyond her years. After marrying, she joined her husband Felix in Japan where he was posted during the Korean war, eventually returning to the U.S. and finally settling in their first home out on Long Island where they raised their family and spent 40 happy years. When the kids were old enough, she returned to work in the local public library where she worked for 20 years, where her talents were recognized early on and she rose to the position of assistant to the director, in an environment that she loved, the world of books and reading. Over the years her children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren had the joy of being read to and encouraged in their reading skills by her. In 2000, she and Felix moved to Granby, CT, where she enjoyed, and was enjoyed by, her growing young family there and devoted her time to them, cultivation of her flower beds, and her home library. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, June 19th, 2-3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Saint Francis Foundation, Attn: Cancer Center at St. Francis (Hope & Healing Campaign), 95 Woodland Street, 2nd Floor, Hartford, CT, 06105, or by visiting, www.stfrancisdonor.com.
