George Rhodes Obituary

Rhodes - George A., joined the angels on August 20, 2024 after being "alive and kicking" for more than 76 years. George was the only child of Margaret and George Rhodes of Albertson, NY. George was a native Long Islander. He graduated from Mineola High School in 1966. He enjoyed a career at the US Post Office, and lived his entire life among caring neighbors in the communities in and around Albertson. George led a life filled with many simple pleasures. He enjoyed attending and watching many of the New York area's great sports teams, from high school to the professional level. He loved attending musical theater in and around Broadway. He also enjoyed venturing out to tour the natural wonders of the US and Canada. George cared deeply about his small clan of relatives. If he could not attend holiday gatherings in person, he celebrated them by sending notes and flowers to his distant family members. George was predeceased by his mother and father; his uncle, Ralph Watson; and aunts, Irene

Stoner (nee Watson) and

Dorothy Ellis (nee Rhodes).

His paternal cousin, Dorothy Ellis Nigro, died in 2021. George is survived by his cousins Carol Padgett (nee Stoner) and Ronald Stoner, and his cousins once removed, Scott and Christopher Padgett. A Memorial Service will be held for George at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home at 412 Willis Avenue in Williston Park at 10:00am on Friday, October 11, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Searing-Roslyn United Methodist Church or the United Way of Long Island, both organizations that George supported throughout much of his life.
