Grace Valentine Obituary

Valentine - Grace Fox, one of the last of "Old Huntington," died last week at the age of almost 101. She lived, until the very last days of her life, in the house built by her late husband, Donald, with the help of both their fathers. Grace was known to many Huntingtonians as Miss Grace: she had her own nursery school in her home and the school became a beloved institution. She was a warm and inventive teacher, a good listener, and a funny storyteller. She respected children and didn't talk down to them. She was sharp as a tack, even at 100 years old. Grace was born and grew up in South Huntington. She graduated from Huntington High School. She and Don were high school sweethearts and married right after graduation. The two of them were a social force of nature. For years, they led a square dancing group, with Don as the caller. They organized and led tours all over the world for groups of neighbors. Grace and Don had one son, David, who died at age 27. Grace planned to create a prize at Huntington High School in David's memory. A viewing for Grace Valentine will be held on Saturday, March 18th, from 11 am to 1 pm at A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home, 1380 New York Avenue in Huntington Station.
