Henry J. Layer

LAYER-Henry J., age 82, of Hollywood, FL on January 16, 2005. A resident of 20 years coming from Farmingdale, NY. Henry served in the Navy during WWII and as a Detective Lieutenant on the Suffolk County Police Department for 32 years. He was an athlete, accomplished artist and sign painter who loved to play golf. Retired for 22 years he lived on Orangebrook golf course in Hollywood where he played golf and painted most of his days. Henry made each of his three children feel special and each felt as though they hit the jackpot of dad's. Henry was a true gentleman who gave much love and will be missed by many people. Survived by his wife Evelyn of 58 years; son James, Cooper City, FL; daughter Eileen Hawxhurst, Huntington, NY; sister Clara Wagner, Farmingdale, NY; grandchildren Michael, Amy, Stacy, Lindsay, Danny, Max, Dennis and Diana. We pray that he is now spending time with his son Dennis and grandson Jimbo. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
