FICHTEL - Howard A., 68, of Huntington, N.Y. Beloved husband of Meredith E., and the late Bonnie F. Loving father to Craig and Brian (Beth) and step-father to Ryan Viets (Devi) and Whitney Viets. Adoring grandfather to Amanda and Rachel. Graduate of Garden City HS and Penn State University. PSU ROTC, then naval supply officer on USS Hartley DE1029 from '66 - '69. CPA, accountant at KPMG in Hartford, CT, and then at Brooklyn Union Gas/Keyspan/ National Grid until his retirement in Dec. 2000. Dedicated servant to his church and to organizations serving the underprivileged; UM Volunteer in Mission to Costa Rica; treasurer of the Centerport United Methodist Church, the Huntington Food Council, the Lindbergh Park HOA, and the former Huntington Freedom Center. Reposing at Nolan, Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave, Northport, Monday, 2-5 and 7-9 pm. Service at 11 am, Tuesday at funeral home, followed by interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Farmingdale. Memorial service at Centerport Methodist Church, 97 Little Neck Rd, Centerport, Sunday, June 2 at 2 pm. Donations may be made to the CUMC Capital Fund, the Huntington Food Council (90 E. 5th St., Huntington Station), or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. nthfh.com

Howard was a great co-worker with me at Brooklyn Union and KeySpan. He was the ultimate accountant and was extremely helpful when we merged with LILCO.

He and I played golf together on may occasions and I thoroughly enjoyed his company.
