James Shortell Obituary

SHORTELL, Jr. - James F., of Hobart, NY, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 26, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 26, 1942, in New York City, James was the son of the late James F. and Mary C. (Eckman) Shortell, Sr. He retired as a Lieutenant at the Nassau Co. Correctional Facility in East Meadow, NY. James loved the outdoors and nature, one of the reasons he moved to Hobart from East Meadow in 2005. He also enjoyed camping, the companionship of his golden retrievers, Casey and Maggie, and his annual trip to Hillsdale for the Falcon Ridge Music Festival. James was also proud of his over 30 year commitment to AA and enjoyed the friendships he built. He is survived by his companion, Mary Lou Annarella of Hobart; children, Donna Shortell of Freeport, Jackie Shortell-Shepis of Melville, Dawn (James) Clasen of Chelmsford, MA, James (Laurel) Shortell, III of Oakdale, Josh (Kim) Shortell of Ronkonkoma and Stephanie (Ken) Darling of N. Babylon; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a brother, Donald Shortell of Glen Cove. A memorial service will be held at Morgans Park, Glen Cove, on Sunday, October 3rd, at noon.
