John Conneally Obituary

CONNEALLY - John L. Sr. of Lynbrook on October 26, 2015. Beloved husband of Marie. Loving father of John Jr. (Nicole) and Erin Weinberg (Brian). Cherished grandfather of Jett Weinberg, Emilia Conneally, Jolie Weinberg, and Sean Conneally. Dear brother of Maureen Rooney and Helen Daly. John joined the NYPD in July of 1973 and was assigned to the 44th precinct in the Bronx. He was promoted to Detective in 1989 and assigned to the Intelligence Division, Dignitary Protection. John protected so many Presidents and Ambassadors from all over the world. He was assigned to Rudy Giuliani's detail when he was the Mayor, followed by Cardinal O'Connor. These last two assignments were his proudest moments because he had such great respect and admiration for both of them and would have done whatever was necessary to keep them safe. He was also assigned to the FBI Terrorist Task Force in 1993 after the first World Trade Center bombing. He loved the NYPD and all of the great officers he met and worked with throughout his career. He retired on August 31, 1998. Family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home, Inc., 34 Hempstead Avenue (corner Peninsula Blvd.), Lynbrook. Funeral Mass Friday 9:45am Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Lynbrook. Cremation private. Memorial contributions may be made to Winthrop University Hospital. Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Our sincere condolences Marie, to you and your family. It is with heavy heart and disbelief we say goodbye to John the Cop our dear SPBC friend and cabana neighbor. Since the first day our family joined the club, John would always greet us with a warm smile and a thumbs up whenever we asked how things were going. Life was good and continued to be good at the beach as long as he was there everyday with his wife, his kids, grandchildren, friends, and paddleball buddies. Our fondest memory of John will always be of him standing in the BBQ man pit behind his "Cadillac" size of a grill, waving his spatula In defense of his fellow grill masters, saying No chicks allowed whenever a woman DARE ENTERED THE PIT. He got a real kick out of saying that and to this day I (a chick) still stand on the other side of the fence whenever the guys are grilling back there. Until we meet again, John, may god keep you and your family safe and in his care. With fond and enduring memories, Donna, Chris, and Christina Karkouta, cabana A-27

John was a devoted and loyal friend. We worked together on many assignments at the Intelligence Division and got to know each other real well. He was proud of his family and also proud to be an NYPD Detective. He was a great guy to have as a partner and was truly one of the FINEST. I will miss him.
