My belated condelences on John's passing. I had John for sixth grade math in 1966-67. While we had a tense relationship in class as I found long division very tedious. However he ran a Friday lunch time voluntary enrichment class that was a highlight of my week in school. It was a foundation of my career as a professional mathematician. I remember those sessions and his enthusiasm with great fondness. His memory lives on in his students.

Condolences and prayers from my family to yours on the passing of a delightful soul. Dr Ryan was the Milburn School principal to me and my four siblings, a wonderful friend to my PTA mom, and an old school gentleman to all that were lucky enough to know him. His daughter Suzie taught third grade to my son, continuing a beautiful tradition of inspired education between our families over the generations. He was the only educator I ever wrote to in my adult life, thanking him for his influence in my life, and he actually wrote me back with a delightful message that crossed the decades and brought me back to sixth grade- still admiring his ageless wisdom and profound integrity. We were blessed and remain blessed in knowing him. So sorry for your loss. What a gift he was!
