Vincent Joseph Gagliano

GAGLIANO-Vincent Joseph, 79 of Simsbury, beloved husband of Shirley Davis Gagliano, died at St. Mary's Home, West Hartford, CT on January 20. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, a first generation American son of Gaetano and Lucia Gagliano of Sicily, Italy. Upon graduating from high school in 1945 he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Aleutian Islands. He later attended Long Island University before pursuing a career in carpentry in the Greater New York City area. A member of the Local Carpenter's Union 284(45) he worked on several landmark New York buildings including the World Trade Center, 100 Wall Street, Kennedy International Airport and the 1964 World's Fair. In 1989 he retired and relocated to Simsbury, CT. He was married on November 8, 1952. In addition to his wife of over 54 years, he is survived by his three children, Dona D. Young and her husband Roland of West Hartford, Daryl D. Gagliano of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Drew D. Gagliano and his wife Ying Lin of Washington, D.C., five grandchildren, Meghan, Wesley, and Taylor Young of West Hartford, CT and Avery and Aniah Gagliano of Washington, D.C. Other survivors include his brother Angelo Gagliano of Corpus Christi, Texas and sister Grace Federici of Rockville Centre, New York and two sisters in law as well as many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was predeceased by his daughter Dawn Davis Gagliano, his brother Joseph Gagliano and sister Teresa Tringali. Vincent's hobbies included gardening, carpentry including intricate bird houses, rooting for the New York Yankees and a tending the academic, athletic and artistic events of his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him for his gentle spirit, compassion and consideration for others. Calling hours will be at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT on Wednesday, January 4 between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. A service will follow the same day at 7:00 p.m. at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT with a reception to follow for family and friends. Burial will be at the Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, New York at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2007.
