Michael Furey

FUREY - Michael J., of Long Beach, formerly of Malverne and South Hempstead at the age of 43 after a lifelong and valiant battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Loving father of Grace Anna (9), and his twin sons James Francis and Michael Henry (5). Beloved son of Nora and the late James Francis Furey. Adored grandson of "Poppy", John T. Smart (103) and the late Anna Margaret Smart, and the late Frank and Elsie Furey. Ex husband and friend of Jaime Aubel. Dear nephew and close and loving confidant of Pat and George Duignan, William T. Smart (Lauren Toran), and Mary Keenan. Also survived by his many dear cousins and friends. Michael attended Our Lady of Lourdes School in Malverne and graduated from Chaminade High School class of 1993. He furthered his education attending Babson College in Massachusetts (class of 1997) where he became a member of Theta Chi following in his grandfather John T. Smart's footsteps. In 1995 Michael participated in "A Semester at Sea" where he traveled 100 plus days around the world. This was the highlight of his life after the birth of his 3 children. Upon graduation Michael was a stockbroker at Goldis Financial Group in Garden City. Michael also secretly participated in the Adult Literacy Program. Family will receive friends tonight 7-9pm and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home, Inc 34 Hempstead Ave., (corner of Peninsula Blvd) Lynbrook. Funeral Mass Monday 9:45 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, Malverne. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michael's memory to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
