I had planned to use another pediatrician 35 years ago when my baby was born. I ended up meeting Dr Joseph in the hospital, and knew immediately that he was the one I wanted to care for my children. He went out of his way to make sure they got the right care, from the right people, all through the years. He stood by us through some tough things... Even after we moved from Syosset, I came back to the best pediatrician I have even known. It was a pleasure and an honor to have known him - so smart, so compassionate, so respectful and supportive. There aren't a lot like him. RIP, Dr Joseph.

I simply loved Dr. Joseph. He took care of all three of my children until they were almost adults, and he saved my nephew's life. Not only was he a gifted clinician and diagnostician, but he was also the most compassionate doctor I have ever encountered. A lifelong learner with deep intellectual curiosity, he had the ability to listen with care, comfort with love, and treat with precision. He demonstrated concern and respect, not only for his patients but for their parents as well. The world has lost a wonderful doctor and a great man. May his memory be a blessing

May Paul's memory be a blessing. I had only been the assistant rabbi at North Shore for a few years before Paul moved to queens but he is still dearly missed. What a sweet, sweet man.

Dr. Paul Ronnie Joseph, of Forest Hills, NY, passed away at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park, NY, on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the age of 87. The cause of death was COVID-19 related illness. Paul was born and raised in Jersey City, son of a town doctor and a member of a family who were the local department store magnates. At five years old he weekly traveled on his own via public transportation to NYC for piano lessons on East 72nd Street. After college at Yale and medical school at NYU he served in the U.S. Army as a medical attache to the Iranian government. He then found himself in the Philippines in charge of an American effort by the CDC to study a vaccine trial for cholera in the midst of a significant epidemic in the region. He returned to complete his pediatric residency and soon opened, in Syosset, NY, a private practice that served the children of Long Island for the next 39 years. He served on the board of the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association, directed the North Shore Synagogue Continuing Adult-Education Program, summered at the Chautauqua Institution, and was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. He was the beloved husband to first Marlee and then Carol. He was the devoted father of Debby and Barry, and later of step-daughter Lily Shapiro. He was the dear brother of Carl, and the proud grandfather of Akiva, Mira, Eva and Delia.
