Peter Scotese Memoriam

Peter Scotese

March 13, 1920 - July 27, 2024

The Horatio Alger Association is saddened by the loss of Peter Scotese, a 1981 Horatio Alger Award recipient. Mr. Scotese, a generous philanthropist, left a mark on both the Association and his community through his unwavering dedication to giving back. His remarkable career in textiles began after his service in World War II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Rising through the ranks to become the first nonfamily president and CEO of Springs Industries, Inc., Mr. Scotese not only led the company to unprecedented growth but also used his success to support and uplift others. His legacy of leadership and commitment to excellence will be remembered by all who know him.

We are immensely grateful to Mr. Scotese for his many years of support and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Pete was a very good friend of my father, Lars De Geer, and when I met with for the last time, together with my two sons stranded in NYC due to storm Sandy, he took so good care of us iviting us for excellent dinners with good food Dry Martinis and wine. So sad to hear that he passed away. A wonderful and remarkable man with a big, big heart.
