Ria Meade Obituary

MEADE - Ria (Maria). Ria was born on October 19, 1955, in Manhasset. She graduated from Manhasset High School and went on to study at the University of Hartford Art School. Ria resided in Port Washington, where she lived an active and full life. After losing her sight at the age of 29, due to complications from diabetes, she turned her energy toward creative expression. Ria became an accomplished poet, potter, and weaver, publishing several heartfelt books in which she shared her innermost thoughts and the challenges she faced with honesty and grace. Her independence was made possible through her dedicated and loyal family, circle of friends, and her unwavering support of her eight seeing eye dogs, each one bringing her joy, unconditional love, and steadfast companionship. Ria is survived by her brother, Tom, and his wife, Bess; her sister-in-law, Bless; and her devoted sister, Anne. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and George; and her brothers, Jim, Jerry, and Chris. Visitation is Monday, June 16, 2025, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, at Fairchild Sons Inc., 1570 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, NY 11030. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, June 17, 2025, 10:15 AM, St. Mary's Church, 1300 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, NY 11030. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her honor to The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ.
