Ronald Quinn Obituary

Quinn - Ronald formerly of Seaford, NY, died peacefully on March 3, 2024. He was 91. The eldest son of Martin Quinn and Dolores (Hughes) Quinn, he grew up in Long Beach, NY and attended Long Beach High School. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and then served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Belvoir, Virginia. Following his military service, he received his graduate degree in education from Adelphi University. In 1956, Ronald was hired by the Levitown, NY School District, where he was a beloved elementary and middle school teacher for nearly thirty years. Along with Tom Daly, Alice Schmidt and Louise Standard, he developed an outdoor education program that introduced sixth graders to camping, fishing, and cross-country skiing. The program evolved into one that also included environmental studies, with an emphasis on the preservation of Long Island's natural beauty. His summers were spent on the beach, working as a lifeguard at Long Beach and later for the Town of Hempstead, rising through the ranks to become the Chief Lifeguard. Although the role was supervisory, he was also a friend, mentor and trusted confidant, ever eager to lend wisdom, guidance and support. Until her untimely passing in 2021, Ronald's dearest friend was his devoted wife Kathleen Dempsey, his loving, joy-filled partner who shared his many interests. They were avid readers, exuberant Giant fans, and world travelers. Ronald is survived by his brother, Martin Quinn; his daughter, Ardes Quinn Feit; grandchildren, Hana, Logan, and Greta; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother Gregory Quinn. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Donations in Ronald's memory can be made to Long Island Cares: https://www.licares.org/.

I had Mr Quinn for 6th grade as well. He was an incredible teacher. He made everyone get up and sing a song in front of the class before graduating. I was so nervous but it was the best thing to get me out of my shell. I ran into friends of him years later and reconnected. He would send me postcards from al over the world for years. Rest in Peace Mr Quinn

My condolences to the family of Mr. Quinn the only name I ever used as he was my beloved 6th grade teacher back in 1963. I loved him. He also had my brother and my sister in his class in 1960 and 1966 respectively. I´ll never forget his little red convertible MG.

Wonderful memories of a guy whom I spent many enjoyable moments with at the beach over a long time. I'll always remember his infectious smile and laugh. He'll be missed.
