I would like to make a correction to post I made earlier. I did work with Russ at BOCES in connection with the adult nursing program.
He was a well loved teacher.
It was a pleasure knowing him.

I was a Franciscan Novice as well as Junior Professed with [Vernon] Russ. I've fond memories of our soft ball games at Middleburg, NY where he affectionally named me Leafy' as a pitcher. His laughter was infectious! Go rest high on that Mountain, Russ, your work on earth is done.

I had the joy of sharing seminary life with Russ at Staten Is., Granby and Rensselaer.I had the privilege of calling him brother as a Franciscan. He was clearly one of our best. All of us, family and friends, shall miss him. Certainly, as St. Francis exhorted his Friars, while Russ had time , he did good.

My deepest condolences to the Siller family. I was a student of Mr. Siller's at Moore Catholic. He was by far one of my favorite teachers - truly an inspirational and caring teacher - made me a better writer with a love of reading - fond memories of acting in a production of Midsummer Night's Dream in my junior year. Rest In peace Mr. Siller.

I send my sincere condolences to everyone in the Siller family. Russell Siller was my English teacher in my Junior year at Moore Catholic High School. He was a great teacher who inspired students to have a greater appreciation for classic literature, poetry, plays and creative writing. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, the many students he taught, and in the wonderful work to help others that is done by Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

In his quiet but firm way Russ showed what being a Christian Gentleman was all about. How many teachers 50 years removed from St. Peter's High School graduation can you think of and want to say" Thank You " to almost every day.
Thanks again Mr.Siller, and thank you,
the Siller Family, for sharing Russ with us.

Hands down, one of the greatest teachers I had at St. Peter's Boys HS, or anywhere. Will never forget junior year English with him, reading Moby Dick, Red Badge of Courage, Bridge of San Luis Rey, and The Scarlet Letter. He made those books come alive, and made them relevant to that time and place. Has always stayed with me, and was one of the influences to my becoming an English teacher, and later a librarian. I told him this at our 10 year reunion, and glad I did. He appreciated it. May he rest in peace. Don Laub. St. Peter's Boys HS. Class of 1969

Sometimes in life you will come across an amazing person who will make you feel like you're in the presence of greatness. They will guide you, inspire you, make an immeasurable impact in your life, and forever be a part of your story. Mr Siller was that person for me. He was an amazing teacher who not only believed in me but taught me to believe in myself. I don't think I would've made it through college without him. His stories/life lessons will stay with me forever. It was an honor to not only be taught/advised by him but to know him. RIP professor Siller. My condolences to the Siller family.

Russ was much more than my teacher and tennis coach at St Peter's, he was a friend who would always try to give good advice and guidance no matter what the problem. He also had the greatest tennis lob that would drive other players "nuts".
A great athlete in the siller family tradition and just a class act. My deepest sympathies to George and Frank and the entire family.

Russ was a friend, a mentor, and most of all an inspiration. In the at times stifling halls of St. Peter's during the turbulent 60's Russ provided the necessary counter balance. He was a superb teacher but more importantly, a superb human being. As the director of non-traditional plays, and the faculty adviser to the Underground, Russ defended those of us who didn't fit the traditional mold. He will be sorely missed.
