Salvatore Soviero Obituary

SOVIERO - Salvatore (Sam), of Huntington, left peacfully in his 94th year on August 8, 2008. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, godfather and friend. Now joins the love of his life Dorothy, in Heaven. Sam was a renowned light heavy weight fighter in the early 1930's, owning a record of 44-2. He worked out at the world famous Stillman's Gym where he was trained by a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame, Whitey Bimstien. In turn, Sam trained many fine young local fighters. A welder by trade, he took apart his father's house on Wall Street and used the materials to build a beautiful new house for his wife and two children in Halesite. Above all else Salvatore was a devoted family man whose honesty, integrity, strength, love courage, faith, hard work and sacrifice made life much easier for all those fortunate enough to be touched by him. He was a great man. He is survived by his son, James, daughter-in-law, Joan, daughter Dorothy Vilas, son-in-law, Michael Vilas, grand- children, Julianne, James, Rita, Dorothy, Samuel, four great-grandchildren, sisters Mary and Jeanne Pravato, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. Visiting Sunday and Monday 2-5 and 7-9pm at the M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Mass Tuesday St. Patrick's RC Church, Huntington. Burial St. Patrick's Cemetery, Huntington, NY.
