Sophie Bruckner-Greenfield

BRUCKNER-GREENFIELD - Sophie, of Charlotte, NC died August 29. Yound at heart, she was 86. Born in Eastern Europe, Sophie came to America as an infant and grew up in the Bronx, NY where she fell in love with and married Alex. They shared a love of literature, the arts, and gardening. Later, as a wife and mother of two, Sophie attended college, graduating summa cum laude. Her love of knowledge for its own sake and wonder at the world were constants. She was fiercely independent, appreciated beauty in its myriad forms, and loved her family. She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Beverly of Cary NC, son Russell and his wife Julia of Charlotte NC, and beloved grandchildren Abby and Jonathan. A graveside service will be held Sunday, 11:30am at Beth Moses Cemetery in NY. Please direct memorial donations to your local public library, an institution Sophie dearly loved.
