"Honouring a Remarkable Man"
Troy E. Ducharme passed away tragically of a head injury on Thursday, October 9, 2014. He is well known for his outstanding work as owner of many successful companies in the Calgary oil patch and internationally for owning the world's largest slotting company, G&L Slotco, which he recently sold in August 2014. Troy was a true visionary; he was the greatest example of how big goals teamed with determination and hard work can result in limitless success. Troy was honest, generous, kind man who was respected and loved by everyone he knew. He leaves behind a legacy for his children, Blake Ducharme and Robin Arnold (David), wife Bonnie Ducharme, grandchildren Maya and Sadie, stepchildren, Carri (Ray) Gauthier, Sue (Phil) Shannon, Bill (Jenny) Shannon, 7 step-grandchildren, brothers Graham (Tracey), Gerry (Gladys), sisters Lee (Greg), Gina (Harvey), Treasure (Andrew), Grant, Vicky, nieces and nephews. Troy joins his parents and son, Reece, in Heaven. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 - 18th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. followed by an Honouring of His Life at 4:00pm at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel (133 – 9 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB).

I first met T-roy 25 years ago when he hired me to work at his manufacturing plant(Rapid Camp-Ducharme Oilfield Rentals) in Spruce Grove. I worked for him for 9 years and then he sold us to Precision Drilling. The thing I remember most about Troy was his love of family - whether it was his actual family or his work family, he always gave all to ensure that they were taken care of and to help them on their voyage thru life. He was simply larger than life and a very special man - there is no way that the loss of such an amazing individual can be understood, but one thing I do know is that he left his mark wherever he went and will continue to do so even now. Rest in Peace, Troy, you were one in a million!

I am a dock contractor in Lighthouse Pt and have done work for Troy the last 4 years. I have never met a more polite, respectful, humble person in all my life. We moved to Port St Charles, Barbados in 1998 and we were blessed with two great new friends, Troy and Bonnie, when they moved there a few years later. Our youngest son Rob was living with us and Troy "adopted" him taking him fishing and always welcoming him to their condo. We then decided to get a condo in Florida and Troy offered to drive me around to look at a few places and together we found our townhome in Pompano not far from their Lighthouse Point home. A few years later we moved over to the Pointe where they also have a condo. I will never forget, before I had a bank account here, I went to a car auction and bought a Mercedes for $15,000 not realizing that the auction house did not want to wait for a wire transfer, they wanted money on the spot. I called Troy and asked him if I could have a bank draft from him for $15,000. Without asking what for, when will you pay me back, he said sure come on over we'll go right to the bank. That is an amazing and generous friend! I ended up also opening an account at his bank. Our kids still talk about our Christmas in Florida about 8 years ago when Troy and Bonnie came to our place dressed as Mr and Mrs Claus and gave the kids gifts. Next came Troys desire to have a runabout in front of his house and he invited me to join him, so we went 50/50 on a Grady White. Troy like me, always paid his share of the bills the day they were due. On the Friday before he passed away he showed me his new plane. He was extremely proud of the Black Gold custom paint job. On the Saturday Mary and I went for dinner with Troy and Bonnie at Chops. He looked great, had a couple of martinis and a steak. Of course everyone already knew him at Chops and greeted him like the great guy he was. We all have Troy stories, Mary and I have many more and many great memories of a terrific boat handler, generous friend, one to laugh and enjoy life with and an astute businessman. Troy we will miss you and we will take care of Bonnie and help her in any way we can in the coming years. Bon Voyage to heaven!
